About Josh

Josh Cooley is iconically-known for his straight-forward approach to not only hair, but anything life has to offer. Not one to shy away from the limelight or word choice, Josh studied Graphic Design and Illustration as a teenager and decided the life of an artist was not for him... at least that's what he thought.

Josh has studied with reputable artists, visionaries and creative directors in the beauty industry through his near fifteen years of salon experience.

Josh originally began his career as a make-up artist for music videos and studied editorial styling as well was salon management and was "front of the house" for powerhouse salon Headlines Style Gallery in Pueblo, Colorado before he really dove into the world of hair.

After completing advanced training with American Crew Menswork Academy (Denver, CO) and Toni & Guy Advanced Academy (Denver/Dallas), Josh felt he was ready to be a hair designer.

Always talented in the arena of colour formulation and application, Josh educated for the ammonia-free brand CHI Ionic Color, owned by industry veteran Farouk Shami in Houston, Texas. After two years with CHi, Josh was scouted by L'Oreal to help with the US launch of INOA, L'Oreal's first ammonia-free range.

When Josh separated from teaching for brands and left Headlines, he went on to market himself as a freelance artist at a couple salons in Southern Colorado only to be greeted by a three-month waiting list, 300 clients and multiple endorsement and entertainment deals .

After retiring from the world of music videos, Josh took on writing two columns as a freelance writer.  "Haute Mess" (2010-2012) ran in three papers at one time and his mentor/guidance column for young adults "Living Fabulously" (2011-2013) both brought him accolades and solidified his notoriety for telling it like it is.

Still working behind the chair, Josh's love of writing launched the sleeper hit "Pretty Boy Education" and "Pretty World, Fabulous Life: Inside Studio JRy" which chronicled his journeys in salons and in life.

It was at that time that Josh slgned the lease for his own studio Rockstars + Lambs by Josh Cooley.  In November 2011, construction started.

Rockstars + Lambs opened in April 2012 and Josh was soon up and running in a two-chair private studio. In 2012, Josh was recruited by Los Angeles-based beauty brand Joico to teach color and product knowledge.  His training included learning from celebrity colorist and industry educators Beth Minardi (NYC), George Papanikolas (LA), Sue Pemberton (Las Vegas), Cherry Petenbrink (LA), Guy Tang (LA), Misha Belfer (Denver), Richard Mannah (USA) and Efi Davies (London).

Josh just ended a two-year education ambassadorship with London-based brand Label.m which allowed him to train in various locations and presentation at industry trade shows and distrubtion houses.  He is currently working full-time at his private studio. His packed book as a colorist in Pueblo, Colorado solidifies his presence as one of Southern Colorado's best.  To book, feel free to text 719-250-2529 or hit the "Contact Josh" tab on the website.
